Midget Minitruck Mania
Oh Kei baby let's go! This 1996 Daihatsu Midget II K100P truck is the polar opposite to the current crop of oversized, truck-nutz'd adorned uber-pickups.
Best of all, it's as teal as the fin de siècle decade it hails from!
The Daihatsu Midget II K100P is a single-seat, Japanese-market "kei truck" featuring a single-person cab and a compact 4ft-long bed. The vehicle is 113" long and is powered by a 659cc, three-cylinder, carbureted engine that puts out an underwhelming 31 horsepower... notably less when the AC is on (yes, this one's air conditioned!).
Sure, it's cute but is it street-legal outside Japan? You betcha! This (and any 25-year-old or older) Midget II K100P can be imported and registered for use in North America - in fact, it's the smallest vehicle that can be.
Owners report it can reach and maintain highway speeds... though attempting to pass 18-wheelers (or even being there while semis pass you) is NOT advised!
The featured Daihatsu Midget II K100P is a first-year (1996) model with a "four on the floor" manual transmission. It's in great shape, notwithstanding an odometer reading of 53k kilometers (~33k miles).
We're not sure if the paint and side graphics are original but the colors are authentic to 1996, somewhat late in the Teal Age.
